The two sides diverge slightly towards the head, which splays out from the body forming a crescent shaped blade which angles at approximately 30 degrees from the body, the blade tips slightly short of being at right angles. Part of the blade is missing in one corner. The base is also rounded, although a portion of one side is also absent. The side profile is of a shallow lenticular shape. It is symmetrical. The base and blade are both pointed. There are slight raised flanges on both sides, upper and lower. The axe has a green coloured surfac…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A copper alloy penannular ring or ring core of probable Bronze Age date (c. 1300-800BC). The ring is made from a circular sectioned loop with a moulded in feature around the outside circumferemce. It is wider in the middle than at the terminals. The material is quite degraded and only half of the ring survives, still, it is apparant that the terminal (the smaller diameter end) was flat. The wider end is more damaged and has been crudely broken. It may be a core onto which gold or silver would have been fixed and the finder comments that traces of gold may be pr…

A heavily worn and incomplete Bronze Age palstave axe head.
Extensive surface loss has occurred along the edges and surfaces of the find, giving the axe and thin irregular form.
The butt end is sub-square, and is slightly more truncated to one side. From the butt, the sides flare slightly. The side flanges are missing; however, the stop ridge is still prominently visible, especially on one side. From the stop ridge, the blade tapers slightly (due to surface loss) before flaring marginally to the cutting edge which is heavily truncated and rounded. A partial rib is visible on one face…

An incomplete copper-alloy early Bronze Age flat axehead. All that remains is the blade end, which is flared and roughly triangular in shape. The worn and corroded cutting edge is crescentic in form, extending beyond both sides of the axe. The surface is badly corroded with little of the original patina remaining.
This is the blade end from an incomplete axe of Bronze Age date. Its form, size and lack of flanges suggest it is a flat axe rather than a palstave and as such it dates to the Early Bronze Age, c.2150-1500 BC.

A fragment of a cast late Bronze Age copper alloy socketed axehead, dating to c.900-700 BC.
The fragment consists of the axehead's cutting edge only, the rest of the object is missing. The cutting edge is worn and an abraded break reveals a shallow portion of the socket that is c.6mm deep.
The axehead fragment is sub-trapezoidal in plan. The broken edge of the axehead runs transversely across its body giving an irregular, but mostly flat, edge. In cross section the body is sub-rectangular, as revealed by the break, while the blade is vesica (a pointed oval) shaped. …

A copper alloy long flanged palstave axe dating to the late Early to early Middle Bronze Age.
The axe has a wide curved blade that is bevel on both sides of the forward edge. The sides of the blade concave and narrow to the main rectangular body.
