Unidentified copper-alloy object, possibly a short or incomplete pin, of unknown date. It has shaft of circular cross-section which tapers into a flattened (rectangular in cross-section) blunt point at the tip. At the opposite end there is a simple collar followed by a long biconical head of expanded-diameter and finally a small globular knob. The shaft is now bent nearly ninety degrees. The metal is uniformly patinated dull mid- to dark green. There are no obvious signs of breakage. Length (estimated, unbent) 64mm. Diameter (shaft): 3.5mm, (biconical head): 7.1mm, (globular knob): 2.…

An incomplete cast copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object is slightly rounded and may have once been roughly spherical. The fragment has two curved edges that appear complete that may suggest to object to have cut out sections. The fragment has two 'arms' extending out from its sides that appear to be broken, and its sides curve inwards and narrow beneath the arms. The exterior face is decorated with incised lines that follow the edges as a border, the interior face is undecorated. The object has a light brown patina. The object is similar and may…

Fragment of thin gold sheet or foil, from an object of indeterminate use and date. The artefact comprises a flat, roughly D-shaped sheet, with a single neat straight edge. A crease follows the line of the straight edge about 2-3mm from it, forming a slight  groove or ridge along the edge. The rest of the object has hammer marks, probably from being beaten into its flat sheet form. Although the straight edge appears to have been neatly cut (or scored and folded until it broke), it is not clear if the straight edge is part of the form of the …

Medieval giled copper-alloy horse-harness pendant in the form of a lion passant guardant to dexter. It is flat on the reverse and convex on the front. On the way it connects with the tail, which arches over the back and then doubles back. The head is sub-square with two large sunken rings for eyes, each containing a central pellet, and a straight horizontal groove for a mouth. There are very small knops on the top left and right for ears. Th…

Fragment of flat copper-alloy plate, 1.3mm thick and approximately rectangular, 23 x 12 mm. One face is smooth and the other rougher. One long edge is cut into with four V-shaped notches, larger at one end and getting smaller towards the other. The other long edge has a partial circle (c. 6mm diameter) cut out of the corner closer to the smaller notches. Other edges appear to be broken (worn breaks). The zig-zag serrations are very slightly bevelled or rounded, on the smoother face only. There is a green patina and the object appears of some age, although precise date and fun…

Near spherical bead of unknown date, probably made of stone. It has a circular perforation passing through it with straight tapering sides and a larger opening at one end than the other. The stone is pale yellowish-brown with patches of darker yellowish-brown. Undecorated beads are difficult to date. It is probably not prehistoric as those tend to have a perforation that is hourglass-shaped in profile. Length (measured along perforation): 14.9mm. Diameter (perpendicular to perforation): 14.7mm. Diameter of perforation (large end): 5.2mm, (small end): 4.1mm. Weight. 3.8g
