A thin sheet of either gold, or gold plated metal which is wrapped around an iron component. The sheet is decorated by sets of parallel indentations which run along the surface in a diagonal direction. The decoration appears to have been machined. Though the purpose / function of this object is not immediately clear, its style of manufacture indicates a modern date. It may have been a component of a bespoke Victorian writing implement such as a fountain pen. It has been described as non-diagnostic for the Bronze Age, Roman, Medieval and Post-Medieval per…

A cast lead-alloy anthropomorphic mount of unknown date. The mount depicts a face wearing a rimmed cap. The face is decorated with incised linework in the style of a feathered ‘masquerade’ mask around the eyes. A single perforation in on one cheek (1.7mm diameter) may represent a teardrop. The cap is decorated with incised linework framing the curve to the top and four roughly equidistant holes 1.7mm in diameter perforate the rim of the cap. The eyes are lenticular in shape (6.7mm long, 2.8mm wide) with one eye (above the teardrop) slightly downcast, possibly indicating a sad expr…

Description: Incomplete object, perhaps a bead, made of beaded silver wire. The wire is coiled into 4½ surviving turns which become gradually smaller, forming a truncated cone. The beading is very neat and perfect, with narrow beads forming transverse ridges on the inner surfaces rather than rounded beads. On the exterior, however, the beads are very worn so that the surface is almost smooth. The beading on the narrower end is in unworn condition, suggesting that at least one turn of the coil has been lost here. The beading on the wider end is unworn for about half its circumferen…

Two glass beads.  The beads are of a pale blue or aquamarine colour.  Both are slightly irregular in shape but are essentially sub-oval with flattened sides and a single central perforation.  It is often difficult to date beads accurately, especially if they are of very simple design.  These beads are therefore recorded as undated although are thought to be most probably of Modern date, AD.c.1750-1900 as the form is not typical of earlier periods. Both beads weigh 0.4g, the larger bead is 9.43mm long by 5.59mm thick by 4.79mm wide, the smaller bead is 8.85mm long by 6.34mm thic…
