Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: West Sussex

A flint waste flake (debitage) probably of late Mesolithic to Neolithic date and reworked at a later Neolithic to Bronze age date.
The flint appears to have been hard hammer struck from a secondary flake, with a pronouced bulb of percussion and single striking platform with surviving cortex. On the dorsal face is a deep smooth concave thumb shaped depression with a single arise. There are crude removals, possibly damage at the end of the arise near the distal edge. The flake has been retouched on multiple areas with regular long scaled abrupt retouch comprising four rem…

A flint flake.
A probable secondary flake with large platform and evidence of cortex in two distinct areas.
The flake has evidence of retouching on both the dorsal and ventral faces with ripples and bulb scars visible. The right-hand side leading edge (as looking at the flake from the ventral face) looks to also have evidence of retouch.
Suggested date: Mesolithic to Neolithic.

A probable prehistoric core trimming flake.
The find is roughly triangular with a white, yet heavily worn patina. This would indicate that the find has been exposed for some time, likely eroding out of the soil.
The flint is truncated at the distal end and probably would have originally extended to a point. The flake has a visible bulb of percussion.
