A small and incomplete whetstone made from an imported micaceous schist and of suspected early medieval to medieval date. The whetstone was originally rectangular and narrow, with a sub rectangular cross section. Only one end now survives, this has a rounded terminal drilled with a large suspension hole. The main body of the object has been thinned to breakage by heavy use from one side.

Quartz plough pebble. About one half of an oval quartz pebble, worn to a flat surface across its putative middle with unidirectional fine scoring marks on the flat surface. Kevin Leahy identifies such objects as plough pebbles, considering they were driven into the mould board of a plough to reduce the erosion of the wood by the heavy wear incurred during the use of a plough, with unidirectional wear patterns arising from this setting. Limestone spindle whorl. Plain fat limestone disc with large hole, Walton Rogers form B. The source record alludes to a large hole which may hint at an Anglo-Scandinavian date. The flat cylindrical form is common at Flixborough in a 8th-to-9th-century assemblage, and continues as a popular form into the medieval period. The mass may suggest this example could be used to spin a fine yarn. Stone whorls are much more common than lead when occupation deposits are hand-excavated. The object is rectangular in plan and section, tapering in thickness from pierced end to a worn transverse break at the other. The wider end or top of the object is pierced with a circular perforation measuring 3.1mm in diameter. This appears to have been drilled from each face. Fragment of a large sub-rectangular sectioned whetstone, of fine-grained non micaceous mid grey stone with lighter, linier streaks throughout, both ends are broken, the surviving section appears to be the centre with all sides constricted from use wear, one only subtlety worn, one face has a prominent, rounded groove that runs down the length on the centre, this must have been wear from one specialised form of grinding or sharpening.

A possible early medieval to post medieval whetstone, dating from AD 800-1400.  The object is a long rectangular shape, narrowing slightly at one end. At the wider end it is rounded, and missing one corner. There is a circular perforation at this end, it has been drilled from both sides. Fragment of a late Saxon or medieval Norwegian ragstone hone both ends missing, parts of two faces and of one straight side only. Extant length 47.5mm, thickness 5 - 6.5mm. Weight 8.9g. Norwegian Ragstone was imported in quantity before the Conquest (Moore, D.T. and Ellis, S.E. in Rogerson and Dallas 1984, 107-11) and in Norfolk remained "the preferred material for hones during the late medieval period" (Mills, J.M. with Moore, D. in Shepherd Popescu 2009, 709). 10th - 15th century.

A possibly complete stone object, possibly a whetstone or hone of uncertain date. The object is formed from a finely grained light brown stone, with a sub-rectangular plan and section. The surfaces are smoothed and the edges and corners rounded suggesting it may have been used as a whetstone or similar. The object is 44.9mm long, 19mm wide, 15.1mm thick and weighs 25.5g. It is extremely difficult to date whetstones accurately without any supporting contextual evidence. This object was found in an area of known Early-Medieval activity, a similar date therefore cannot be ruled out.

This surface is curved in one direction with one edge having a sharper radius, the striations run at 90o to the curve and the surface is flat in this direction. A sub rectangular, sandstone rock with ogham script inscribed down three of the four sides. The front and back sides are smooth. The rock is a dark grey colour and likely to be a shist type rock (metamorphic mudstone/shale). The incisions appear to have been done in a single action, not repeated.
