A fragment from a cast copper-alloy early Anglo-Saxon girdle hanger dating to c.AD 470-560 Only the shank/neck has survived. It is plano-convex with a thickened side terminating with a broken loop. The thickened end (4.6 mm thick) is decorated with cast transverse ribs: two raised bands, followed by a space, then a further two bands. A medial ridge runs the entire length of the extant piece. Below the thickened section the shaft widens gently and is flatter and is D-shaped in cross-section (2.2 mm thick near the break).The shaft terminates with an old break. The reverse is undecorated…

The headplate comprises a trefoil head with three projecting sub-rectangular lobes with semi-circular cut aways at each angle.
