Lozenge-shaped strip brooch made from gilded silver. It has 8th-century Mercian-style chip-carved decoration showing a central profile animal within a spiral and enmeshed in interlace. It is perforated at one end, and this led to an original identification as a book mount. Since then, several brooches of Weetch's type 31.C have been found with rivets or perforations at one end to allow the attachment of a separate pin or catch (e.g. SUR-47F8A7, PUBLIC-C5F154, CAM-A4DEEE, BUC-4D849D) and this seems the most likely identification in this case.
