A complete lead or lead alloy weight, of probable Late Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1300 to AD 1800). The weight is cylindrial in plan, and sub circular in cross section. One end has been squashed together. The central hole has an internal diameter of 8.1 mm. Corrosion products and soil are still present inside the central perforation. A pair of copper-alloy sub-triangular plates of unknown purpose or date. The plates have two coincident perforations, one close to the centre and the other near to one point. It is possible that the object is a strap-end; however, it may have served a different purpose. There is no decoration on any surface, but traces of a black coating can be observed on two of the surfaces. This type of coating is often seen on dress accessories and is sometimes referred to as lacquer (Buckles 1250-1800, Whitehead, 2003. p8). The degree of corrosion is extensive and suggests that the item is of s…

Iron chain links. Two oval chain links of wrought iron, of apparently rectangular section. Each link is narrowed by wear at its ends. An irregular fragment of copper alloy casting waste, of uncertain dating, but possibly Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval (1400 - 1800 AD). The casting waste fragment consists of a sub rectangular sheet, with uneven, almost bubbly surfaces. It is sub rectangular in cross section. Two edges are smooth and unabraded, indicative of a fairly recent break. It is a mid grey colour, with a couple of areas which display a distinctive shiny sheer to it. This shiny sheer is suggestive that the copper alloy has a high tin content. The weight of the fragment is suggestive that lead …

A cast copper alloy conical staff base fitting (possibly), of uncertain date. The object has two opposing rivet holes on the open end that may have been used to secure to fitting to the staff. Internally, the fitting has iron corrosion on one side, suggesting either the rivets were iron or that whatever was inserted into the fitting had an iron element. There are numerous scored vertical lines all over the outer body of the object although these are rough and uneven and may not be intentional design elements. One side of the fitting has suffered damage and an area is broken and …
