An incomplete cast copper alloy bracelet or armlet of uncertain date. A penannular band of lentoid section, tapering from a wider (13.5 mm) midpoint towards narrower (6 mm) ends, both broken. The bracelet is slightly distorted, now forming an ellipse 48 mm by 29.5 mm, but was probably originally wider. The object appears to have been cleaned and has no patina, surface is a metallic coppery brass colour. The form resembles some armlets popular in the early Roman period, see Crummy (1983: 42) fig 44, no 1676. However, an object of such a simple form may have serv…

A fragmentary cast copper alloy figurine, probably of neoclassical form and post-medieval (AD 1750-1850). The figurine is represented by a foot, likely from a reclining female. The foot itself is 35.5mm long and 14.9mm wide. The bottom of the foot has the remnants of a ?lead attachment 15.8mm x 13.8mm, which may have extended the length of the foot, but the other half is missing in old damage. The angle of the foot suggests the figure was in a reclining posture. The leg measures 12.7mm x 10.9mm at the break and the indention suggests the leg was hollow. The object is a mottled dark gr…

Object type: TILE
Broad period: MODERN
County: Dorset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of ceramic building material, probably a roof tile, probably of Modern date, although the amount of Roman material in the area suggests an unusual Roman form cannot be ruled out. The fragment is irregular in plan and rectangular in section, broken and abraded on three sides with one complete, angled edge. It has a fine hard fired completely oxidised fabric. Fine linear striations on the surface may suggest a modern technique. Traces of white mortar are on either face of fragment. On one side remain traces of a rounded flange.
The fragment measures 96.1 mm in length, 54.2…

A lead alloy fragment of an object cast in the shape of a dolphin or fish. The dolphin has a very prominent mouth and facial features and its body curves round to form a s-shape. The end of the tail is broken and missing. It has two rounded 'pegs', one projecting from the top of the head and the other from the upward curving tail.
This dolphin is quite Roman in style but may also be Neoclassical. There is currently still a degree of debate over the dating and functionality of these items. Similar ones have been recorded on the PAS database (HESH-407E14, NARC-DB1815, LVPL-554…
