An incomplete copper-alloy Roman coin, probably an as or dupondius and perhaps a cast contemporary copy (limesfalsum) of Nero (AD 54-68), dating to the period c.AD 54-68 (Reece period 3). Unclear reverse type. Unclear mint. Measurements: Diameter: 23.28mm: thickness: 2.17mm; weight: 2.85g The coin is missing the upper outer edge of the flan. It is unusual in that the break runs around the outline of the top of the bust of the emperor, perhaps the result of deliberate modification (piercing?) in antiquity or post-depositional damage.

Minted in southern Gaul. As RIC I (2nd ed.), p. 213, no. 121. The coin has been struck slightly off centre on both sides but is otherwise in good condition. Although there is evidence of some damage or flaking to both faces of the coin it is unclear whether this is a result of it being plated. It is 17mm in diameter and 2mm thick and weighs 3.22g.
