A complete copper alloy scoop, of possible Roman or later date. The handle is flattened, rectangular in cross-section and expands slightly towards its outer end. At its inner end it joins an oval bowl section, slightly concave on one face and convex on the other. The object has been folded in two so that the handle sits against the bowl. There are traces of a white metal coating in places on the surface.
Although the patina and presence of a white metal coating suggest a Roman date, the object is unusually simple in form and may be of a later medieval or even post-medieval date.

An incomplete cast copper alloy scoop or implement of uncertain dating.
The implement is sub rectangular in both plan and cross section. The front consists of a rectangular handle, with an oval depression (scoop) in the lower end. An old break is present at the upper point of the handle, where it has split into three thin metal rods. At this end of the handle, it would appear to be the start of openwork decoration, however due to the break, the exact form and style of this decoration is unknown.
The back of the implement has a swelling at the back of the scoop, t…

Copper alloy with white metal coating scoop fragment. Missing part of scoop end and most of the opposite end. Square section twisted shaft - with no gap between the twisting and the terminals. The scoop is narrow and fairly flat (may have been flattened?) and ends with a damaged straight edge - this might be a break but it curves up slightly to this end. The other end is flattened in the same plane as the scoop at the break, so this piece is not a Roman spoon probe. It might be a double ended scoop; although quite likely Roman in date there is nothing diagnostic (if shorter I would su…
