A complete but distorted copper alloy pin of most likely Roman date, although an Early Medieval date cannot be fully discounted. The head of the pin is plain and globular and c. 4.7mm in diameter. Below the head is a moulded, raised band, however this is not so pronounced as the collars normally seen on Early Medieval examples. The pin is bent at a right angle around 8mm down from the collar; it then continues for c. 17mm before it folds back on itself in a u-bend; finally the tip bends up again at a 90 degree angle towards the head. The whole surface of the pin is covered with a com…

A fragment of a bone hair pin, pin or needle of probable Roman date comprising a portion of the shaft and the pointed tip. The surface is a dark brown colour with oblique striations. The object is sub-circular in cross section and the point is conical. Measurements are; length 49.3mm, diameter at the widest point 2.3mm and weight 0.36g. This is narrower than the maximum diameter given for most Roman pins and hair pins on the PAS database, but this may be because the head is missing. Similar bone hair pins have been recorded on the database including SUR-6AA775 and LON-10EEF7.

An incomplete, copper alloy, Roman - Medieval, facet headed pin, AD.150-1200. The object comprises the head and part of the shank of the pin. The head is faceted with 13 decorated facets each with a single ring and dot. The 14th facet is where the pin shank emerges, below this is a narrow faceted collar. The shank has broken probably halfway down its length. This form of pin is common from the Roman period to the medieval, though perhaps most common during the Roman and Early Medieval periods.
