A complete, copper alloy pin of the Roman period (AD43-410). The pin has a sub-rectangular head with a circular perforation. The head tapers to a rounded shank which then tapers to a point.The top of the head is slightly angled to one side; this is possibly because of wear but could have been intentional. There is evidence of decoration around the head but, due to wear and corrosion, it is not possible to clearly determine the nature of the decoration, although it could be the outline of a hare's face and ears.There is strong evidence of gilding on the pin.
