Attached to the back of the wire is an additional piece of sheet gold that forms two ovoid ‘ears’ in either side of the wire, each with an undulating surface.

A slightly tapering gold tube with coiled wire decoration attached to it near the wider end and about two-thirds of the way down. The wider end is closed by a flat plate, secured from coming out by the ends of the tube being bent over. The plate now sits at an angle, with one side pushed slightly down the tube, but it would appear that it originally sat square to the end of the tube. Attached to the plate is a small loop, of fairly flat cross-section. The tube is bent slightly to one side towards its narrower end, the edges of which are folded in. It seems likely that it is broken at …

2. (KKGF 03 (205). sf 234).Incomplete necklace. The necklace is constructed in the same manner as no. 1, although the terminal, of which only the hook part survives, has a rectangular sheet metal cover plate wrapped around it. The chain is irregularly interspersed with a series of cut stones: there are 10 reddish-brown polyhedral faceted garnets, two disc-shaped garnets, and three cylindrical emeralds of different sizes. It is possible that some of the beads were added to substitute missing originals, with the ten faceted garnets perhaps representing the original stones and the other,…

Each bird has a pellet eye, a ribbed beak and bodies composed of a series of parallel ribs to represent feathers. The decorative elements are well preserved, with the right-hand side of the lower element bent slightly upwards.
