A Roman gold openwork bracelet, now rather crushed and distorted, with dirt still present inside much of the openwork (c. AD 300 - 400). The hoop is flat in profile. The body of the bracelet is decorated with plain edges inside which the decorative zone is divided into four sections by circles inside which are equal-armed crosses with volutes between the arms. Between each of these circles is a repeating pattern of waves just inside the outer edges, which further enclose rows of conjoined hearts that are further subdivided into three polygonal cells. Although no direct parallels can b…

1. (KKGF 03 (205). sf 233). Fragment of a bracelet or necklace. The surviving section is composed of a series of gold filigree double-loop links, the bars of which were threaded with polyhedral faceted beads of the green stone variscite. Seven beads survive. The terminals consist of a hook and eye attachment, each of which were soldered onto the last link chain by means of a triangular plate. Both terminals survive attached to each other; one part of the chain is missing, and it is unclear exactly how long the chain was originally, although it has been suggested that this item of jew…

Small pen-nib shaped object made from a triangular piece of gold sheet which was curled at the top. The top of the reverse is coated with an unknown white residue/incrustation and both surfaces have been 'decorated' with an assymmetrical crisscross pattern. The artefact has been identified as the terminal of a Roman snake bracelet (2006/T269), but the identification is questionable. The finder donated the find to the Museum of Lancashire. British Museum report: Fragment of sheet gold, probably a terminal from a penannular bracelet. It is shaped like a crude snakes he…
