A complete, possibly glass, gaming piece probably dating to the Roman period, circa AD50-400. The gaming piece is conical in form with a sub circular base and sides which narrow to a rounded point. The sides of the gaming piece are slightly faceted. The surfaces of the gaming piece are smooth and shiny and are mottled blue / black in colour. Light surface scratching is present probably as a result of movement in the plough soil. The material is uncertain due to the softness of the fabric and the object's unusually light weight. Dated as probably Roman owing to an assemblage of Roman b…

The gaming piece is black and opaque. Most of the surfaces are matte, but a slight faceted edge is shiny presumably as a result of polishing. The upper face is slightly damaged but a small, central perforation surrounded by a concentric groove is clearly present. The damage is not new and was probably caused as a result of movement in the plough soil. Diameter: 11.25mm. Thickness: 6.06mm. Weight: 1.2…

A glass object, quite possibly a gaming counter. The glass is a blue/violet colour and has some holes caused by air bubbles. The counter is flat on one side and rounded on the other, indicating it was intended to be placed upon one side. It is sub-circular in shape, measuring 18.5 mm long, 17.5 mm wide, 7.4 mm thick and weighs 3.2 grams. Given the quantity of Roman material found from the same area, there is a strong possibility that this piece is also of Roman date.
