Fragment of Roman flue tile, c.AD 43-410.
This is a fragment of a rectangular tile with flat faces, with broken edges and corners. The obverse is scored with regular lines to help mortar to adhere to the surface. The breaks around the edges mean that no corners survive that indicate whether this is a wall or floor tile.

A body sherd that probably belonged to a Roman mortarium. The predominant colour is cream/white while the core appears more pink, and the texture of the sherd is slightly like sandpaper. There are mica inclusions which appear abundantly on the outer surface, where there are also inclusions of various shades of brown and grey that are very abundant but very small. The largest in inclusions on the outer surface are a red inclusion of 2mm in length and a quartz inclusion of 1.9mm in length. Fragment of Roman grey ware (1st - 2nd Century AD). Both outer and inner surface are smooth textured and of a dark grey colour. The fabric contains quartz inclusions which are barely discernible. This type of ware was typically used for cooking or storage, although it is difficult to determine the type of vessel that this sherd belonged to.

A base sherd likely from a Roman mortarium. The main colour is cream/white, which alters at one of the breaks to beige/pink at the core, and the texture is chalky. The outer surface appears dappled with brown. There appears to be moderate inclusions of mica. The most prominent inclusions are dark brown and grey and mostly angular, with some that appear darker and shinier. A decorated body sherd from the lower portion of a large bowl of central Gaulish Samian ware, dating to the 2nd to early 3rd century AD. The fabric is hard fired and orange-pink with infrequent dark inclusions and a reddish brown slip. The sherd is curved and the exterior has a moulded scene depicting a semi-clad female figure, possibly Venus, partially draped and seated facing left, with a beaded border of the panel running down the sherd on the right hand side.

A decorated body sherd from the lower portion of a large bowl of Gaulish samian ware, possibly of Dragondorff form 29 or 37 and dating to the 1st to early 3rd century AD. The fabric is hard fired and orange-pink with a reddish brown slip. The sherd is curved and the exterior has a moulded hunting scene with a hare, running left, large palm fronds to the right and a running border of spirals below. Beneath this is a change in angle to the base.

A decorated body sherd from a bowl (cf. Dragendorff 37) of south Gaulish samian ware dating to the 1st to early 2nd century AD. The fabric is hard fired and orange-pink with fine limestone inclusions and a reddish brown slip. The exterior has a moulded band of foliate or acanthus decoration on the lower edge. The rim is beaded and would have had an original diameter of around 220mm.
