A copper alloy contemporary copy of a Roman nummus of the House of Theodosius. The obverse features a bust facing right. The design has been struck off centre so the face of the emperor appears at the edge of the flan. No legend characters are visible. The exact date of the coin is uncertain. The House of Theodosius (Theodosian II) dates from 388-402 AD (Reece periods 21). The reverse type appears to be a crude portrayal of victory walking left, holding a wreath in her extended right arm. A copper alloy radiate for the Roman Empire. The obverse side shows a radiate bust racing right. A few characters from the obverse legend are visible but are too worn to read. Rebecca Griffiths suggests this might be Gallienus based on the appearance of the letters. The emperor portrayed and the exact date of this coin is uncertain. In general, copper alloy radiates date from 260AD to 296AD (Reece periods 13-14). None of the reverse legend is visible. The reverse side is very worn but appears to show a figure standing. No mint marks are visible. This coin is sub-circular. Both f…
