A sherd from the rim of a Roman glass vessel. The sherd comes from the rim of a vessel c.17cm in diameter - perhaps a large open flask or more probably a bowl. The rim has been formed from a fold of glass (probably an inwards fold, although this is not clear due to damage). The glass is a translucent light bluish-green colour and has a metallic patina. Because of the small size of the sherd, the original form of the vessel cannot be determined and as such only a broad Roman date is suggested. Length: 29.42mm, width: 18.27mm, thickness: 6.38mm, weight: 2.68g

An oval nicolo intaglio depicting the Roman god Jupiter, set in a gold-coloured metal frame. It shows Jupiter, partly draped, seated right (as viewed) on a diphros (stool) holding a vertical sceptre in his right hand and a thunderbolt in his extended left hand. There is a groundline beneath the chair. It is cut with a flat top and sides sloping outwards towards the base. The oval metallic frame is flat and surrounds the intaglio at its widest point; behind the frame the intaglio protrudes slightly with straight sides. The reverse of the intaglio and part of the rear frame are covered …

Object type: WINDOW GLASS
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A small fragment of glass, possibly window glass. The fragment is roughly triangular in form, pale blue/green in colour, containing some air bubbles and with one surface coarser/rougher than the other. The longest (upper?) edge of the fragment is complete and at one end it begins to curve slightly before terminating in old breaks. It measures 14.65mm in length, 26.13mm in width, 1.56mm in thickness, and 0.91g in weight. This is a possible fragment of window glass or similar. Its find spot might indicate a Roman date, although a later date range cannot be ruled out entirely.

A fragment of a Roman glass vessel. The fragment comes from the vessel's rim, which is broad with a narrow opening. Its profile, seen in the break, shows that it was formed from being folded outwards, upwards and then inwards again. The glass is a light blue-green in colour. Its size compared to the narrow opening suggests that it may have come from a small flask or bottle similar to the globular bath flasks discussed by Price and Cottam (1998, 188-90), which have been found in 1st to mid-3rd century contexts across England and Wales. An assemblage of 4 glass window fragments of Roman date. They have a combined total weight of 2.18g. 1) 1 fragment of rectangular pale green window glass of Roman date. The underside is rough, suggesting that it was cast. This fragment measures 14.26mm in length, 12.03mm in width, 1.81mm in thickness, 0.56g in weight. Cast window glass appeared around the middle of the first century. It was probably produced by pouring molten glass into trays resulting in relatively thick panes with a characteristic flat, rough underside, a glossy, slightly undulating upper surface, frequently with…

A small rim sherd from a glass vessel of possible Roman date. Part of the flattened rim, possibly from a jar or bottle with an original rim diameter of c.21mm is preserved, the remainder of the object now missing due to old breaks.
