An almost complete copper alloy Roman brooch of the Wirral type dating to c.AD 100-200.
The brooch is almost complete, missing just the hinge mechanism and pin. It presents a stepped head the top of which connects to the headloop. On the reverse of the head is the remains of the hinge mechanism which has a small section of the pin remaining emerging from each side out of two rivet holes. A complete probable lead weight or plumb of uncertain date. The lead is conical with a flat base and rounded tip with a small circular dimple. The object has a stippled, cream patina with signs of wear.

Lead weights are difficult to date when found as stray finds as they are used for long periods of time however similar weights on the database include ESS-EB2B97, WILT-BB2605 and SWYOR-24A123. The latter two, however, unlike the present example have a hollow core.
