Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Trumpet type and of 1st or 2nd century AD date The cast brooch is fragmentary, represented by the head only (with a surviving length of 16.5mm, a surviving depth of 9.0mm and a weight of 4.5g). The missing spring was secured around a central, perforated lug with a fragment of the copper alloy axis bar within the perforation. Head and upper bow of a copper alloy Polden Hill brooch of Western Group. The spring mechanism is of developed Polden Hill type with pierced disc terminals to the side-wings to support the axial bar of the spring and the chord secured above the spring by a cast crest in the centre of the head. The bow is a flat D-shape in section, and is flanked by two slight appendages, delineated by a groove, which appear to terminate slightly above the break.
