Roman copper alloy brooch that is a hybrid between a Polden Hill and a Wirral style. The pin mounting is in the polden Hill style, consisting of rearward facing lugs on either end of the wings that would have held the pin axis bar which is now missing. The bow of the brooch is in the Wirral style and consists of a double rectangular cell covering the top quarter, which contains traces of a red or orange enamel. Two angled low protrusions flank the apex of the bow and a shallow double grove running down the centre of the lower half completes the decoration. Date 75-175AD

Copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill dating AD 75-200. It has rearward facing lugs on either end of the wings that would have held the pin axes bar, but one wing is truncated resulting in the loss of the axe bar, spring and pin. The head of the bow has a tapering triangular panel with expanded shoulders. In the centre of the head is a crest with a loop at the back that would have held the external cord of the spring. the remainder of the bow is undecorated and the catch plate on the reverse is complete.

A Roman copper alloy plate brooch dating to c AD 43-200.  Mackreth PL CONT no. 25. Copper alloy Bow and Fantail type brooch with a Polden Hill style spring mount. This has rearward facing lugs (both now broken) on either end of the wings that would have held the spring axes bar. On the top of the head is a broken loop that would have held the external cord of the spring. On the front of the head are two projecting rectangular tabs that have upturned corners. Below the fantail expands outwards and is decorated with a central double grove and surrounded by a border. The catch plate on the reverse is complete.

An ovel projection decorated the apex of the bow with recessed cells below that may have formed a row of opposing triangles, unfortunately the lower part of the bow is truncated resulting in the loss of most of this decoration.
