Pottery. Colour-Coated Ware; off-white fabric with relict traces of an orange slip internally, base sherd from a strainer or cheese press with a worn relict of the vessel side. Traces of seventeen holes pierced with a tapered point [of diameter 4-2mm] and less before firing appear on the surface and edge. Fiercely abraded and water-rolled. A copper alloy coin, a dupondius, probably of Trajan (AD 98-117) (Reece Period 5), illegible reverse. Mint of Rome. The coin has been heavily eroded by the sea, giving it an uneven surface on the reverse. It measures 28.75mm in diameter, is 2.67 mm thick and weighs 9.90g.

A copper alloy enamelled button and loop fastener, Wild Type VIa (1971) dating to the 2nd century AD. The object has a square head and an incomplete loop. The head is decorated with two rows of enamel. The enamel sits within triangular cells facing back to back with a row of five blue triangular cells separated by a line of copper alloy from a row of five yellow triangular cells. A cast lead alloy spindle whorl of Roman to later Medieval date (43 - 1500 AD). The object is circular in plan and biconical. The object has a central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 9.34mm. Each face is decorated with very worn mouldings of lines and pellets. The object has a dark white patina and is in fair condition. Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1100-1500.
