A ceramic vessel fragment; a base and part wall sherd of Roman greyware dating from AD 43 - 410. The fabric is hard, fine and light  grey throughout. It has grit and quartz inclusions with some mica. The base is slightly concave on the underside and correspondingly convex on the inside and has a diameter of 59.6mm. The sherd is 25.1mm high and 52.7mm long. It weighs 38g. This sherd was found below the bottom of a previously excavated archaeological trench.

A copper alloy Roman brooch of uncertain type, probably related to a Colchester derivative hinged, Thealby Mine or headstud brooch, but not corresponding to any group perfectly. It has a hinged pin and a separate wire headloop and strip collar. The wings are plain and form a tube for the iron axis bar with a butt joint along the reverse. An incomplete copper-alloy headstud brooch of Roman date, c.AD 75 - 200. Mackreth 2011, Hinged Headstud Type 4, Plate 72, no.11860.  The head of the brooch comprises rectangular wings the reverse of which act as a double lug hinge mechanism which retains a central axis bar. A closed loop pin remains around the axis bar, terminating in a worn break. The remains of an integral circular attachment loop projects from the upper edge of the head.
