A complete lead spindle whorl of Roman to Post Medieval date circa AD 43-1650. The whorl is discoidal in shape and sub-rectangular in cross section. The central hole is circular with an internal diameter of 8.2mm. No decoration is present on either surfaces, though there are small areas of pitting seen on both sides.  The whorl is a light grey colour with a slightly uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.  Measurements: Diameter: 32mm Thickness: 6.2mm Weig…

An incomplete copper alloy, probable bracelet, of probable Roman dating (AD 43 to AD 410). The probable bracelet consists of a piece of copper alloy metal with a D shaped cross section. The bracelet is currently bent in an almost semi circular shape. One end is complete, with a sub square terminal, the other is incomplete, presumed damaged in antiquity. The reverse of the bracelet is smooth with no decoration. Any decorational detail on the front of the bracelet is hard to determine but probably consists of a horizontal line 11.0 mm long, with two to three dots on either end. Traces …

A slightly uneven cast lead die of three-dimensional cuboid shape (14.4mm x 14.5mm; weight: 30.92g). Each side shows a number from 1-6 that have been incised as single dots to a depth of approximately 1mm. There is one deep cut/ damage mark on the side with 5 dots. The die is in a slightly worn but fair condition. It is difficult to date dice as they appear in all periods, but Mills suggests that the more conventional Roman dice were made of bone or lead (see Mills, 'Celtic & Roman Artefacts', 2000, page 113, Ref no RB356). However, many examples of excavated dice from Roman sit…
