A fragmentary cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch of AD 100-175. The brooch is represented by the head and upper bow (with a remaining overall length of 46.4mm, weight 20.72g) with the spring mechanism, pin, lower bow/leg and catch-plate missing in old damage. The head is sub-oval in plan with a small knop on the apex (21.4mm tall x 16.8mm wide) to accommodate a perforated lug on the reverse, now damaged (4.8mm wide x 16.2mm tall, internal diameter of surviving perforation 3.1mm), which would have held the spring mechanism. The figurine is represented by a bent leg broken above the knee and at the ankle with a surviving max length of 58.5mm, 18.6mm wide and max depth 26.6mm (from knee to break). The leg is hollow with a casting flash line on the back of the calf suggesting this figurine is Post-Medieval to Modern in date. Two lead discs of uncertain function, likely of Roman date. The find consists of two lead discs, sub circular in plan, one with a (now partially flattened) turned up edge a pie crust, the other roughly flat. Due to the softness of the lead, both halves are damaged and distorted, meaning that exact original forms are uncertain.
