A large possible lower-middle Palaeolithic flint scraper. Description: The object is formed from an irregular flint flake triangular in cross-section. The dorsal face is quite high which helps form this cross section. The bulb of percussion on the reverse is fairly shallow although the discoidal rippling is very pronounced. There is a removal flake across where the bulb of percussion which suggest a level of shaping. The wide outside edge of the tool appears to be the working edge with short scaled abrupt retouch along a small section abutting the striking platform end. The rest …

In plan the side run diagonally inwards to a shorter straight edge giving it an overall shape of a modern axehead in plan. A Middle Palaeolithic probable Levalloisian scraper c. 250,000BC - 60, 000BC. The flaking appears intentionally to have shaped the flint that while still on the core, typical of levallois flint technology. There is a scraping edge from the top middle edge of the ventral face running down to the right side of the edge. The retouch is very varied but mostly long scaled stepped semi-abrupt retouch, the retouch comes in from both sides and gets finer on the …

A lower-Palaeolithic massive D-shaped scraper, c. 800, 000BC - 150, 000BC . Description: The scraper is roughly D-shaped. The bulb of percussion on the ventral face has been removed by later flaking. The flaking, which has generally taken off very large flakes, covers much of the surface and has left significant conchoidal scaring (rippling) likely due to hard hammer manufacture. The striking platform at the proximal end is also very large. There is some limited retouch along the dorsal edge, which is short, scaled and semi-abrupt. There is some flaking and retouch which may have o…
