A flint flake of Upper Palaeolithic to early Neolithic date c.40,000-3300BC.  The blade is narrow with a triangular cross section and a low bulb of percussion and minimal rippling on the ventral suggesting it was soft hammer struck. The dorsal side has five long flake removals and a short removal at the distal end cutting the arise and adjacent to a small area of cortex. The flint surface is covered in a creamy repatination, an alkaline environment having recorticated the surface. The long edges are chipped from plough damage which reveals the pale b…

A large flint blade, 84.5mm in length struck from a light brown flint with a thin triangular section. The flint has a heavily worn and polished patina with dark brown staining from prolonged exposure to a riverine environment and flowing water. The long edges are roughly parallel and have battering damage along their full length, from usage, post depositional fluvial erosion or both. The reverse has a low bulbar scar. Possibly a blade or "bruised" blade tool of later Upper Paleolithic date.

A pointed retouched flint blade, possibly of late Upper Paleolithic date, 84.5mm in length, lanceolate in form and struck from a brown coloured flint. It has a trapezoidal cross section and a slightly curved side profile. There is low angle sub-parallel retouch along the entirety of one long side and along two thirds of the other, on the dorsal surface only, running to the distal tip, which has a triangular cross section and has been retouched around and across its entirety with semi abrupt and low angle retouch, to refine a working point. The distal end of the ventral s…

A stout blade of opaque cream flint with rusty spots. The proximal end has been truncated straight. The dorsal section is peaked with complex blade scars; some of them from opposed platforms and an oblique distal facet making a point with the straight left margin. The margins have been heavily utilised with a burin strike on the distal tip. The left margin has been abraded and blunted from use. In the distal oblique margin there is a large notch but it is more recent, as it reveals a slightly more grey interior. Bond(2004) illustrates truncated blades, with one like this on page 90, f…

A fragment of a broken blade of uncertain prehistoric date (Late (Upper) Palaeolithic to Neolithic, c. 40,000-2,500 BC). The blade is made on a mottled dark orange-brown flint. It is broadly triangular in profile although it is more flat at the proximal end. There are three broad removals on the dorsal surface, with some modern damage / edging. The blade is broken towards the distal end.

A complete flint bladelet with a rubbed end dating to the Late Upper Palaeolithic or early Mesolithic period, c. 40,000 - 7,000 BC. The bladelet has been made from a tertiary flake of a mottled dark brown flint. Part of the platform has been retained and this also appears to have been rubbed, as has the distal end. There are thin flake scars over the dorsal surface. There is possible ancient reutilisation damage on the left hand edge.

A flint piercer made on a bladelet dating to the Late Upper Palaeolithic to Mesolithic period (c. 20,000-4,000 BC). The piercer has been made on a tertiary flake of a mottled orange-brown flint. The bulb is retained as is the small fragment of the platform. There are two flake scars on the dorsal surface. The lower half of the left hand edge of the dorsal side has been worked with soft hammer precussion, becoming more invasive towards the tip of the piercer, which has detatched, possibly during production but potentially after deposition.

An Upper Paleolithic blade, 119mm in length. This is a thick, high-backed blade with an abrupt end, which suggests that it may come from a two platform core. The striking platform is heavily abraded. In profile the blade is curved. The whole is patinated a chalky buff, with iron staining on the ventral face. There is some ventral edge damage or post-patination retouch on the left edge. It is likely to be very late in date, from around 28,000-9,000 BC.

Late Upper Palaeolithic long blade soft hammer struck from an opposed platform core with nine long fluted blade flake scars converging on the dorsal face towards the distal end of this piece suggesting that the core from which it was struck was approximately 200 mm long. It is patinated with a mottled orange, brown and grey with one recent chip to one lateral edge revealing the mid-grey flint this blade was originally made from. There are small areas to both lateral edges that are finely use worn and are patinated. Long blades are an efficient way of producing long sharp cutting im…

Late Upper Palaeolithic long blade fragment with an ancient transverse bending fracture at the mid-point of the blade, and with the distal end is missing. Semi-soft hammer struck from an opposed platform core, with one bifurcated flake scar towards the break orientated 180 degrees from the rest, it is now patinated a light mottled grey with some recent chips revealing the original dark grey flint inside. 65 x 33.5 x 9.5 mm.

Late Upper Palaeolithic long blade which appears to be struck with a soft hammer from a single platform core. Flake directions are difficult to observe as the piece is heavily patinated white with some small areas of spotty iron staining. The proximal end is missing, broken recently and revealing unpatinated black flint. One lateral edge has been steeply retouched along its length at a later date, perhaps during the Neolithic or Bronze Age and has a light grey patination. Such re-use is uncommon, but not unknown. It shows that this piece had been lost or discarded and found several th…

Late Upper Palaeolithic blade of pale brown unpatinated flint, obliquely blunted on the left side and retouched at the proximal end with removal of the bulbar process, possibly a projectile point. The blunting commences at 53mm and continues to the distal tip, which is not broken but does not form a sharp point. There is a small notch centred at 20mm from the base on the right side. Upper Palaeolithic long blade, soft hammer struck from an opposed platform core, the blade is of mottled grey flint with numerous lighter grey coarse inclusions, it is unpatinated, apart from slight iron staining mostly to the ventral face near to the diffuse bulb of percussion. Both lateral edges are damaged, it is difficult to determine if this is use wear or recent battering from the actions of the sea. Most likely to be of Late (final) Upper Palaeolithic date, 12,000 to 10,000 BC.

Fragment of a soft hammer struck long-blade, the proximal end is extant, broken transversely in antiquity, the piece of flint before being broken has been burnt, the break has also removed an invasive flake to the dorsal face in the process, and this has fractured in a hackly manner due to the thermal irregularities from the heat. The flint appears to originally been of mottled grey flint, but is now patchily patinated white, the proximal end is steeply retouched (removing the diffuse bulb of percussion in the process) to form a scraper, both lateral edges have fine use-wear and one si…

Soft hammer struck long blade, from an opposed platform core with long, central flake scar to the dorsal face struck from the platform 180 degrees to the proximal end (the thinner end), this changes the section from triangular (proximal) to trapezoidal (distal). The flint is now patinated matt black from exposure to peat/clay deposits in the submerged forest bed, it appears that it has been moved by the tides recently, causing irregular damage to both thin lateral edges, exposing the brown/grey original colour of the flint.
