A pointed retouched flint blade, possibly of late Upper Paleolithic date, 84.5mm in length, lanceolate in form and struck from a brown coloured flint. It has a trapezoidal cross section and a slightly curved side profile. There is low angle sub-parallel retouch along the entirety of one long side and along two thirds of the other, on the dorsal surface only, running to the distal tip, which has a triangular cross section and has been retouched around and across its entirety with semi abrupt and low angle retouch, to refine a working point. The distal end of the ventral s…

Secondary, semi-soft hammer struck long blade, from a multi-platform core, of very worn and pale whitish to yellow patinated flint with some old agricultural iron scrapes to the high points of the dorsal face and some fine spots and streaks to the ventral face, the two patches of remining thin, grey cortex is almost worn through by rolling. All thin edges are battered and chipped, some more recent, and less patinated than others and cut through the pale-yellow patination of the older surfaces, some now white, one or two are showing as pale grey and may represent the original colour of …

A flint flake of Upper Palaeolithic to early Neolithic date c.40,000-3300BC.  The blade is narrow with a triangular cross section and a low bulb of percussion and minimal rippling on the ventral suggesting it was soft hammer struck. The dorsal side has five long flake removals and a short removal at the distal end cutting the arise and adjacent to a small area of cortex. The flint surface is covered in a creamy repatination, an alkaline environment having recorticated the surface. The long edges are chipped from plough damage which reveals the pale b…

Tertiary soft hammer struck blade: - of white patinated flint with iron stains to both faces, the lateral edges are a mix of recent damage and irregular ancient use wear, the platform is missing, an old break. The damaged edges show the original colour to have been mottled grey. Probably Late (final) Upper Palaeolithic, 12,000 to 10,000 BC.

Twenty-two blades, sections of blades and a few flakes, all tertiary apart from one, five are unpatinated, the rest are patinated white to light grey. Many have fine use wear/recent damage to the lateral edges, all are soft/semi-soft hammer struck. None are obviously finished microliths, though some are likely to be unutilised Mesolithic blades. Largest: 62 x 25 x 14 mm. 19 g. Smallest (white patination): 31 x 13.5 x 3 mm. 1 g. Late (Final) Upper Palaeolithic to Early Neolithic, 12,000 to 3,000 BC.

Tertiary soft hammer struck blade, of trapezoidal section: - of pale, whiteish patinated mottled grey flint with a spot of iron staining to the ventral face, half wrapping around one of the breaks. Both ends are missing, both breaks are ancient transverse bending fractures, this has truncated the blade at 90 degrees, this may have happened at the point of striking the blade off the core. Both lateral edges are finely and irregularly damaged, perhaps by use wear. Probably Late (Final) Upper Palaeolithic, 12,000 to 10,000 BC.

Secondary blade, ?semi-soft hammer struck from a single platform core, difficult to tell as the platform is crushed in antiquity but the bulb is without a scar, the blade is of sub-triangular section with a small patch of thin, weathered cortex extant to the (now) distal end; the blade is recently broken transversely with a long recent break along most of the length of one lateral edge, this shows the original colour of the flint to have been dark grey, grading to black. The other surfaces are now patinated white with the coarse inclusions mid-grey, the central area is striped/banded …

Blade, of brown patinated slightly mottled flint, semi-soft hammer struck from a single platform core, the (unabraded and facet-less) platform has the distinct “lip” at the point of initiation of the strike to remove this blade, an indicator of soft hammer reduction, the bulb itself has a bulbal scar, indicating a slightly harder material than antler was used as a hammer. The distal end is thinly cortical and notched to one side, this may be damage as it cuts through an area of slight grey patination and does not follow the same colour of this, all lateral edges are without…

A large flint blade, 84.5mm in length struck from a light brown flint with a thin triangular section. The flint has a heavily worn and polished patina with dark brown staining from prolonged exposure to a riverine environment and flowing water. The long edges are roughly parallel and have battering damage along their full length, from usage, post depositional fluvial erosion or both. The reverse has a low bulbar scar. Possibly a blade or "bruised" blade tool of later Upper Paleolithic date.

Flint blade, with roughly triangular section dating to the Late Upper Palaeolithic, c. 13,000-9,000BC. The flake is mottled off-white recortified flint with a dark core a small area of the original cortex is visible on the flake's dorstal surface showing it to be a secondary product. Weak ripple marks on the ventral surface emanating from below a narrow bulb of percussion and platform at the narrow end. The blade is curved along its length.

Soft hammer struck long blade, from an opposed platform core with long, central flake scar to the dorsal face struck from the platform 180 degrees to the proximal end (the thinner end), this changes the section from triangular (proximal) to trapezoidal (distal). The flint is now patinated matt black from exposure to peat/clay deposits in the submerged forest bed, it appears that it has been moved by the tides recently, causing irregular damage to both thin lateral edges, exposing the brown/grey original colour of the flint. Late (final) Upper Palaeolithic to Early Mesolithic, 10,000 B…

Secondary, soft hammer struck blade from an opposed platform core, one of the first set of "regularising" blade removals after the crested flake has been removed from the core., but before the "true" long blades are able to be struck. The surface of the blade is heavily patinated to the point of re-corticating and is pitted in places, mostly to the high points of the flake scars and the face of the main flake scar on the dorsal face and also to the bulb of the ventral face, it is now an off-white colour with brown mottles with orange iron stains and scrapes from agr…

Possible soft hammer struck Late (Final) Upper Palaeolithic blades, though quite short for long blades, of Mottled grey flint with a pale grey slight patination, one is patinated almost white, this blade (tertiary, 65.5 x 15 x 5.5 mm, 3 g) has one lateral edge "bruised", use worn to the ventral face towards the distal end with the wear reversed at the mid-point (worn from the dorsal face) towards the proximal end. A chert blade and straight end scraper, trapezoidal in plan, rhomboidal in profile and triangular in section, dating from the Palaeolithic period, c.400,000-40,000 BP. The blade is 92 mm in length, 42.5 mm in width at the distal end tapering to 23 mm at the proximal end, 14.9 mm in thickness and 47.5 g in weight. There is the remnant of a pre-prepared striking platform at the proximal end with a distinct point and bulb of percussion at the edge of the ventral face; the force of the blow has resulted in a gently sinuous curve to the ventral face. The dorsal face bears the scars removal…
