An incomplete Late Bronze Age copper alloy tanged chisel, dating to c 1150 - 850 BC. The handle and blade is missing. The chisel was cast in one piece but can be described in two sections. It has a rectangular tang in subsection which abuts the ovoid-sectioned, collared handle stop of the chisel blade. At the other end would have been the chisel blade beyond the tang. At this point there is a worn break. This artefact has a dark orange brown patina. Tanged chisels, which date from c. 1150-850 BC, are known from several hoards and as isolated finds; …

Fragment of a Bronze Age tanged chisel of Late Bronze Age date, probably of Wilburton or Ewart Park metalworking industry, dated to c. 1150 – 750BC. Only a small section of the tang survives but is clearly square in section. It flares slightly to the collar which is sub oval in form. The blade flares below this collar to give a blade width of 29.02 mm. The blade faces are near-flat and thin gradually towards the edge.  The surface is pitted with a mid-brown patina. On one side an incised line runs parrallel to the angled edge of the blade, c. 3mm from the edge. It…

A fragment of Late Bronze Age cast copper alloy blade/sword dating from c. 1000 to 800 BC. The blade fragment has a surviving length of 45.9mm, with a surviving width of 35.58mm. It is broadly trapezoid in plan and is lenticular in cross-section. The blade edges are heavily eroded leaving no original surface. Both cutting edges are worn and incomplete and the perpendicular edges to these are broken so that the original length of the blade is unknown as well as the position of this fragment along it, though it is likely between the hilt and the middle of the sword a…

An incomplete barbed and tanged arrowhead of Green, H.S. (1980) possible Sutton type dating to the Early Bronze Age c. 2500 - 1500 BC. The arrowhead appears to have been discarded mid knapping. The flint is glossy, mid to dark brown, with flake scars on the front surface, while the reverse has ripples and irregular scaring.  Barbed and Tanged arrowheads are associated with the Bronze Age Beaker Period, c. 2500 - 1500 BC and are usually found within Beaker burials. A short flanged Bronze Age axehead dating to the Middle Bronze Age, c. 1500 - 1250 BC. The axehead has short flanges with high sides, the general condition of the object is worn which distorts identification, but there is a median bevel on the septum of the axe, and a broad lentoid profile suggesting possible Acton Park phase, 1600-1400 BC.  The axehead is incomplete, with a break towards the butt. The barbs are incomplete, and the tip of the arrowhead is missing, otherwise the arrowhead is in good condition.  The flint is glossy, dark brown, both faces are completely covered with invasive pressure flaking scars that overlap in the middle of each face, a larger flake scar on one side may indicate trace of original flake blank which the arrowhead was knapped from. Barbed and Tanged arrowheads are associated with the Bronze Age Beaker Period, …

Flint debitage from blade production, possibly dating between the Middle to Late Bronze Age (1600-800 B.C.) Flint, mid- to dark-grey, semi-translucent, small amounts of white cortex, medium gloss patina. Sub-rectangular in plan. Secondary working. The distal end terminates with a hinge fracture. The proximal end exhibits a striking platform. The dorsal surface is scarred from previous working. There is a prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral surface suggesting the use of a hard hammer, therefore giving a possible date of Middle to…

On of the barbs may be chipped at the corner. The barbs are short, with a fairly straight edge leading to shallow rounded notches at the tang (unlike the deeper notches of some arrowheads that create elongated barbs). The tang is short with a rounded terminal. The arrowhead is bifacially worked with invasive, scaled,…

The awl is circular in section and straight at one end, and square in section and bent at a 90 degree angle on the other end. In the centre of the awl there is a slight bulge. An incomplete, miniature, copper alloy flat axehead of possible Bronze Age to Roman date (c. 2200 BC - AD 410). The object has a tapering blade, flat sides and a rounded cutting edge. The entire surface is heavily pitted with corrosion. A broad date has been proposed as the appearance of the object most closely resembles Early Bronze Age flat axeheads of the Migdale type (e.g. HAMP-3781B6 and DEV-8D7466), but its small size is comparable to late Iron Age and Roman miniature votive deposits (e.g. SUSS-9DD02B). An incomplete, copper alloy possible tanged chisel dating to the Middle Bronze Age - Early Iron Age (c. 1400-800 BC). An alternative identification could be an incomplete palstave axe, but the location of the break has obscured key identifying features. The chisel is broken at the top of the blade and as such, is missing the entire tang. The widening at the top of the blade may suggest a rectangular collar. The blade is broadly triangular, flaring out to a rounded sharpened edge. Cf. SUR-1ED2C5, NMGW-E96F08 and SUR-505F93. Examples from Somerset: SOM-C8B934 and SOM-589161.…

Part of the side and mouth of a Late Bronze Age socketed axe, probably of the Ewart park phase 950-750 BC. The fragment consists of the mouth moulding and adjacent part of one side with very worn breaks around all edges. At one point he edge has bent at 90 degrees to continue onto the front or back face before breaking. At the mouth is a thick triangular cross sectioned mouth moulding then a smaller, shallow D-shaped cross section moulding.
