Possible quern fragment, likely from the base. It looks to be made from a pitted greenstone. Due to its findspot context, it is likely to be Iron Age in dating, although secure dating is impossible, given its fragmentary state, but it is likely to be of prehistoric-Iron Age dates. It still has evidence of a grinding surface, and the curvature around the edge of the grinding surface (where this surface meets the edge of the stone) suggests that when intact, the entire object was circular in shape. Using this curvature to estimate the overall diameter of the grinding surface, it wo…

A large section of an Iron Age- early Roman period terret ring of simple type. It is moulded in one piece from copper alloy and has a circular cross section. This narrows slightly towards the top. At the bottom, there are two wider rings, approximately 3.5cm apart and equidistant from the centre. They are hemispherical on the outside, and flat inside, with another ringed feature moulded into this side. A similar ring was found at Louden Hill Roman fort in Ayrshire (BBC 100 Objects BBC - A History of the World - Object : Roman terret ring for chariot reins), and comparable exa…

A ceramic body sherd from a vessel, potentially Iron Age in date. The sherd is roughly trapezium shaped and seems to have been handmade due to the rough nature of the surface. The fabric seems to include sparse mica inclusions, as well as sparse quartz inclusions.
