An incomplete probable casting jet from copper casting, of uncertain date, c.2350 BC-AD 1800. The casting jet is conical in shape. The top surface is sub oval in shape, with a rounded edge, and a concaved surface. Below this, the jet narrows to a point, with slightly facetted sides. It measures 39 mm in length, 29 mm wide and 33 mm thick. It weighs 39.61 g. The casting jet is a mid to dark green colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface. For similar examples, see WMI…

A single piece of copper alloy casting waste of uncertain period. The object is irregular in shape being broadly rectangular in plan and domed in cross section but with one flatter region and one more bulbous area. The surface are smooth suggesting an as cast state. The irregularity of the form of this object would suggest this is not an intentional shape such that it is more likely to be the remains of the casting process. The fragment is a brown green colour It is 369.2mm long, 32mm wide, 9.1mm thick and weighs 23.51 grams.

An assemblade of 10 pieces of dark grey pottery (one in two pieces), some decorated, of uncertain date, Bronze Age to Early Medieval, 2400 BC - AD 700, perhaps most likely to be middle Iron Age (400 - 100 BC). The fabric is hard, irregular in texture, black on the surface and dark grey to reddish brown in the core. It has frequent poorly sorted quartz inclusions. The surface appears to be smoothed or burnished. There are four rim sherds (one in two pieces). One has an upright rounded rim. The others are rounded and slightly everted. Four wall sherds are decorated with scored lines. T…

A fragment of a copper alloy unidentified object of uncertain date. The fragment is a waisted elongated oval in plan and sub-rectangular in section. The waist in the centre of the fragment produces the appearance of a pair of ovals joined by a narrowed mid-area. One of these ovals terminates with a pair of worn projections, possibly the remains of an integrally cast loop. The other terminates with a circular sectioned projection with a worn break. The surface of the fragment is very worn, therefore any potential decoration is obscured or lost. The fragment has a worn dark-green …

A probable corroded cast copper alloy casting jet or "gate". The object is roughly sub-trapezoidal in plan with a concave reverse and convex, domed top with two sub-rectangular sprue projections near the top. The surfaces are textured with pits from abrasion. This type of object is the result of casting into a mould and represents waste where molten bronze solidifies at the entrance of the mould around the gate and the casting channel/channels. Casting waste is difficult to date, and can potentially be prehistoric to post Medieval. The object may be Bronze Age in d…
