An incomplete copper alloy weight or a plumb bob, in the form of an acorn, of uncertain date, but possibly Roman, AD 43 - 410. Length 30.22mm, diameter 11.9mm, weight 15.97g. It is an elongated three dimensional acorn shape, of circular cross section. The solid object is broken at the base of the cup of the acorn, but other examples have a suspension loop here, suggesting that the acorn hung upside down. The acorn has a rounded apex, unusually long and straight sided body (cylindrical) and a simple cup with a rounded base and no surface decoration. There is a conical terminal knop at …

A complete lead alloy trade weight possibly dating to the Roman period (c.AD 43-410) or post-medieval period (c.AD 1500-1600). The object is circular in plan and is flat on both faces. One face has a raised rim and the other crudely inscribed or stamped Roman numerals, either 'III' or 'II V', indicating mass denomination. These weights can date from the Romano - British period but can also be dated to the 16th Century. Biggs and Withers explain that weights such as this one are comparative to examples discovered in Chester and are termed the 'Chester Types'. These Chester types …

Cast lead-alloy weight of probable Roman date (c. AD 43-410). The weight is biconical in shape though the prominance on one face is slightly damaged and flattened. The patina is dark grey with a rough surface. The item weights 120.3g, has a central diameter of 34.9mm, and a height of 24.3mm There is iron staining at both points which suggest the inclusion of an iron rod for attachment. Lead weights can be difficult to date as their function did not change over many centuries, based on the form and the inclusion of an iron suspension loop it is suggested steelyard weights …

Possibly Roman lead steelyard weight, egg-shaped with an embedded iron suspension loop. There are several V-sectioned grooves on the surface, two forming an irregular X. Height 41.2mm (without loop 37mm). Diameter 29.5mm. Weight 189.08g. Perhaps for 7 Roman ounces (unciae) which = c.189g. However, as there is no need for a steelyard weight to relate to any weight system this correlation may be coincidental.
