Lead alloy toy. Cast model of a ewer for pouring liquid at table. A round pedestal base is separated by a moulded ring from an expanded globular or pear-shaped body which is constricted again below an upwardly angled rim and a pouring spout. An integrally cast handle is kinked and internally knopped at four sites. A lead alloy surface is covered and protected by thick plating of a bright coppery tint overall; where plating is lost the underlying lead alloy is now bubbled and corroding. A series of toy ewers from London (Forsyth and Egan 2005, pages 278-288) is mainly dated to between …

Lead probable toy fragment. A scrap of a cast probably discoid lead object with a scalloped edge, bearing two parallel incised lines on one side; patinated. This is suggested to be part of a whirligig or spinner: a disc with paired holes in the middle through which a cord was passed. When the ends of the cord were pulled the disc would rotate and make a buzzing sound. Examples with rounded scalloping rather than points at the outer edge are rarer, but, like them are dated to the 17th or 18th centuries in London (Forsyth and Egan 2005, pages 388-9 nos 13.1, 13.2 and 13.5). Copper alloy toy. Cast model cannon, rendered at a scale of c.1:30, with a short barrel with flared muzzle and a moulded ring at its base and an internal diameter of 3.5mm , banded along the barrel, with long [6.5mm] trunnions. A further two rings frame a touch hole of diameter 1.5mm; beyond the second ring the cascabel is formed as a tapered flat-ended block. The form is not exactly paralleled by London finds, though it closely resembles that of Type 3 Design 1, which is dated to the late 17th to early 18th century (Forsyth and Egan 2005, page 82).
