A fragment of cast late later early-medieval Anglo-Scandinavian, copper-alloy stirrup-strap mount of Williams Class B type 3 (1997, 92-94).
Description: The fragment represents just under 50% of the mounts full size. The mount is dominated by a single central beast head with decoration picked out in openwork relief. The upper two corner holes are almost certainly rivet holes. The two central pairs of holes are likely meant ot represent the ears of the beast head. Helping frame the larger head may be to very worn upright beasts as on those illustrated by Williams (1997, 9). The brea…

A practically complete cast copper-alloy Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup strap-mount of Williams' class A, type 13, dating to the Late Early-Medieval period, c 1000-1100. The object demonstrates a broadly diamond-shaped main body with lobed corners, the uppermost demonstrating a central circular aperture and the lateral/basal examples knopped on their upper surface. At the bottom of the mount is a sub-rectangular extension, which curves inwards to form a distinctive 'ledge' or flange, demonstrating two circular apertures and associated ferrous corrosion products which suggest the presence …

Copper alloy stirrup strap mount that is pentagonal shape in plan with a truncated rivet hole at the top. Running down either sides are three evenly spaced semicircular knops which on complete examples would form the extremities such as eyes and nostrils of two opposing beasts in the Urnes style, see IOW-1FB012 for a complete example. The face of the mount would have been decorated with engraved lines but this example is heavily worn resulting in the loss of all the detail.
There are two rivet holes at the base and a rearward facing projection on the reverse side. Similar example…

Copper alloy stirrup mount. Cast trapezoid zoomorphic stirrup mount, as kindly identified by the finder, who suggests this to be an example of Williams Type 3 Group 1, highlighting Williams 1997 no. 420 from the Immingham/Grimsby area as a close parallel. Others of the Group come from Lincolnshire locations within a day's ride. The plate is sub-rectangular or trapezoid in form with a basal flange set at an obtuse angle to the rest and retaining slight traces of rust on the back. The flange bears three vertical bars with two rounded motifs or fixing points between them. The central mot…

10th century Anglo-Scandinavian copper alloy stirrup mount. The mount is square in plan with an arched top which is broken at the apex. The mount has a flange at the base which extends at right angles to the rear. The mount has a narrow border which extends all around the outer edge. Within the arched top appears to be Odin's Raven with head to the left pecking at the ground and tail to the right. Beneath the ravens body is a small square within a square. From this square there appears to be several arms extending, in a scroll like fashion, to the edge of the mount. The two lower arms…

A small incomplete cast copper-alloy stirrup terminal of late Early-Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) date. The terminal is broken a short distance behind this.
