A Post Medieval Belgian, Antwerp issued copper-alloy square 3.3g coinweight for a half-ryal coin dating to c.1579-1603.
Square and flat. One face depicts a stylised ship with a rose in the bottom centre and the letter R to top right. (Withers 2011 : 25) The reverse depicts the hand of Antwerp with the letters L / M either side (unknown makers initials) all within a wreath. The weight is quite corroded, displaying a mainly brown colour with patches of green patina.
Sub-square 14.8mm x 14.1mm, thickness 2.3mm, weight 3.3g.

The weight depicts a king with sword and shield standing in a ship with a rose in the centre of the hull and is for a Ryal (rose noble), used from the reigns of Edward IV to Elizabeth I. It was equivalent to 5 Shillings. This weight was possibly struck in the Low Countries. The reverse is blank.
