Complete copper alloy Post-Medieval coin weight. The weight is roughly square in shape. The upper face has the raised figures 'X.V.s' below a crown and the reverse face has a circular groove around the outer edge with a raised sun symbol surrounded by lions and fleur de lis in the centre. A shiny green patina remains in some places, but the surface is fairly erroded and pitted. Weights bearing the sun symbol are for the spur ryal (or rose noble) of James I (Withers 1995, p.38). A double-sided copper-alloy square coin weight of post-medieval date. The weight is for an angel - an 11 shilling coin of James I during the period of his second coinage (1604-1619 AD; Withers and Withers 1995, 22). The reverse is countermarked with a crowned 'I' in the top righthand corner. At 47.5 grains this weight is rather light even though weights are typically made slightly light and lose more weight through corrosion; angels in this period weighed 71 grains (ibid., p. 68).

A complete post-medieval copper-alloy laurel (20s) coin weight with the official counterstamp/verification mark of James I (1603-1625). The coin weight is square in plan. Length: 18.8mm; width: 19.2mm; thickness: 3.3mm. Mass: 7.8g. On the obverse is a raised laureate bust within a circle of pellets. A copper alloy square coin weight probably dating from the third coinage of James I (1619 – 1625) for weighing an Angel coin. The weight is 15.5mm long, 14.4mm wide and 2.8mm thick. It weighs 3.8g. It is stamped with St Michael slaying a dragon on one face, and a crown with “X • S” below on the other. This stands for 10 shilling, the value of the coin. This weigh is a little light for the nominal value of the coin at 58.6 grains instead of 65.5.
