A copper-alloy snake-form belt hook of post-Medieval to modern date.
The artefact takes the form of a slightly elongated 'S-shaped' fitting with moulded decoration on both sides. The central element of the decoration depicts a foliate band held in place by a segmented belt. At each terminal is a serpent/bird-like head, with beak-like nose, pellet eyes and moulded ears or gills. The ends of the heads are located a short distance from the inner portion of the object. A copper-alloy blunt-hooked wire clasp of probable post-Medieval date.
The artefact has been made from a single length of wire, bent double to form a simple hook. At the top are two loops, by which the piece would have been sewn to clothing. From here, the hook extends vertically downwards, before sharply angling upwards, forming a (now slightly distorted) 'V-shaped' object. The end of the hook, where the wire is bent over, has been hammered flat. The object is heavily corroded. It measures 20.1mm long, 14.3mm wide and 4.1mm thick. The weight is 1.38g.
This simple form of clothin…

A copper-alloy belt mount of probable 17th or 18th century AD date. It has been suggested that these mounts may have been worn with naval uniform. For similar examples, see PAS record nos. BH-F68964 and BH-7D0728.
The object has been cast in one piece and the top section bent backwards to form a loop, thus enabling it to be clipped to a belt. The front part of the mount is roughly tongue-shaped, tapering from top to bottom before widening slightly at the rounded bottom end. A transverse ridge marks the top of this front part. The folded tab is of thin section, with flat surfaces, a…

A probable copper-alloy disc-attachment of late Roman to early Early-medieval date. This category of artefact was identified by Hawkes and Dunning (1961; pp. 65) as an example of the so-called 'Soldiers and settlers' material of the late 4th to 5th century AD. It is thought that the function of such objects was to link two or more leather belts or straps.
The object has a circular disc with a small projection at the top and an integral tang at the bottom. The bottom of the disc tapers smoothly into the tang, the end of which is bent forwards so that the bulbous end (possibly the res…
