Lead or lead-alloy four-part cloth seal formed by a strip of four circular discs connected by three integral ribbons. The seal is formed by the strip being folded in half at the central point, so the discs overlie each other. The two discs furthest from the fold (Discs 1 and 4 according to Egan's scheme, 1994, viii) are joined, as Disc 4 has a hole in the centre and Disc 1 has an integral rivet which is passed through the hole and then flattened to secure it. These two discs are slighter smaller than the discs nearest the fold (Discs 2 and 3). The larger discs are not joined by an int…

Complete cast lead cloth seal of fourteenth to early sixteenth century date (AD 1300 – AD 1525). Length 20mm, diameter of discs about 14mm. Weight 6.95g.
The seal is a two part seal with sprue attached. The impressions on both discs are vague and not easily identifiable. Disc 1 has an unidentifiable image above roman-style lettering and disc 2 has a small cross pommee below which is a blackletter initial, probably standing for the place of origin. Both sides appear considerably incompletely struck and perhaps multiply struck. This may be the earliest cloth seal to have been recorded…
