Lead cloth seal with one disc surviving, measuring c. 20.5 mm in diameter. Geoff Egan has identified this seal (pers comm 9/2006) as a London Dyers' Company seal from the early 17th century. It bears a standing figure, possibly an American Indian, with a bow and arrow. To either side of his lower legs are the initials T C. A similar design, but without the initials, is known on a couple of near parallels - one in the British Museum catalogue (Egan, 1995, 187, fig 36, no. 275), and the other from near Trig Lane on the Thames foreshore in the City of London. This was the location of …

A lead cloth seal, probably 17th century in date. The seal bears a double-headed eagle in its centre, with upwardly curving spread wings. A circle separates the eagle from the inscription which reads: HEPERSEE[R] or [K]... (probably the name of a clothier). There are two dotted circles outside the inscription. The reverse is inscribed with GOV/DA, again within a dotted circle. This inscription identifies the seal with the city of Gouda in the Netherlands. Geoff Egan (Finds Adviser) has confirmed that this is the first cloth seal from Gouda to be recorded in Britain. It is evi…

Stamped lead cloth seal, two discs joined by a folded tab but apparently no rivet. There is crudely stamped decoration both faces; dragon or griffin rampant in profile left on one face, within dotted circle having figure 5 at 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock. The other face has two lions passant guardant left within dotted circle. Thickness quoted is that measured over fold. The lack of a rivet implies that these discs are the inner discs from a four-part seal. The device of two lions passant guardant is found on several other 17th-century four-part seals, such as IOW-550FC9, SWYOR-2676E1 a…
