Cast lead continental cloth seal decorated with an ornate 'A', with annulets above, below and to the sides, on one face of the seal, and a pinecone, on a lentoid base with side projections, on the opposite face. The pinecone represents the heraldic device for the city of Augsburg, in Germany, and the 'A' confirms the provenance as the first letter of the place name. The seal was used for 'fustians', a mixed linen and cotton fabric, and one of the most commonly imported textiles during the 16th and early 17th centuries. The trade to England from Augsburg ended during the Thirty Year's …

Lead cloth seal. The face has a stamped decoration depicting (possibly) two wool combs or cutters. There is a line in the centre of the diameter of the object showing that it previously comprised two separate discs; these are now joined. The reverse is not decorated; there are the remains of the shank which connected the first disc with the second.

A complete post-medieval lead cloth seal of 17th-century date. This two-disc seal is of a type associated with imports from Haarlem in the Netherlands of a fine linen known in England as 'holland' (Egan 1994, 110; ref. 321). Disc 1 bears a moulded shield with the city arms: sword erect, four mullets to sides, cross potent in chief. Only part of the common inscription, 'HAERLEMS GOET' ('goods from Haarlem'), is on a disc seemingly too small for the stamp (at Dia. 18.6mm). Of the same diameter is disc 2 (formed by rivet head). It bears the numeral '20' in relief within a beaded circle; c…
