Instead they seem to overlap, which makes it difficult to affix to cloth. Post medieval two-part lead cloth seal depicting a crown over a portcullis on disc two, with no legend. It is poorly struck. A Post Medieval lead alloy cloth seal (AD1714-1727). This cloth seal has four discs. Only two of the discs bear a motif. One has the profile of George I, the other has a crown with a lion above and I to the left. This is an alnage cloth seal and the penny cloth tax has been paid. Near complete stamped two-part Post-Medieval leaden cloth seal. The reverse possibly carries a crude pine cone design but this is not clear. The front face carries a large 'A' design with an annulet above, below, to the right and presumably also to the left, although the seal 'hinge' has broken at this point. A nearly complete, stamped lead alloy bale seal. The seal carries a mixture of Cyrillic (Russian) and Latin lettering. These seals are not uncommon finds and research is ongoing into the deciphering of their legends. This particular one is rather worn and difficult to read. It is thought that they were used for flax or linen crop (seeds etc.) or finished linen etc. Basically they give the quality grades and port of export of the goods, along with the names of officials involved in export customs. A Post Medieval lead alloy cloth seal from Gloucester (AD1665). This is a four-part cloth seal where each part is lozenge-shaped. The two larger parts are stamped. Side one bears the crown above the Royal shield with C to the right and R to the left for Charles II. Side two reads GLOS/TER/1665 with an annulet above. A damaged and incomplete post-medieval cast lead cloth seal probably of 17th-century date. A two-part seal joined by a now missing loop, disc 1 bears a raised design, possibly a bird, surmounting letters, possibly 'IM'. The design and lettering are difficult to discern due to the rivet and losses accounting for nearly a third of the disc. Disc 2 simply bears an incuse letter 'B'. Such a personal clothiers'/weavers'/searchers' seal is very difficult to date precisely, although the incuse letter would seem to date it around the 17th century AD. Both discs have been bent, scratched and abraded.

A damaged post-medieval cast lead cloth seal. A two-part seal joined by a squashed loop, disc 1 bears a raised privy mark 'S/?'. Disc 2 been scratched '2.5 / 25?'. Such a personal clothiers'/weavers'/searchers' seal is very difficult to date precisely; an example illustrated in Egan (1995, 85, 183; ref. 241) bearing similar scratched numerals was dated between the late sixteenth and eighteenth centuries.

This was probably a two-part seal joined by a loop; the loop survives straigtened, with the second disc missing. The extant disc 1 bears a raised letter 'G' on its rivet, possibly followed by another character. There are also raised lines, possibly from the weave of the cloth. Such a personal clothiers'/weavers'/searchers' seal is very difficult to date precisely. Both the disc and the loop have been bent and corroded.
