Small lead cloth seal. The object was probably a four-part seal; there are signs of a breakage on the second disc. There are two discs surviving; the first disc has the rivet that would have been fitted into the fourth disc (missing), this would have had a perforation to provide a means for attachment. The obverse of the first disc is not decorated. The second disc, and only other surviving part of this object, has an obverse design of a crown with three possible thistles emerging. Below the crown are three, possibly four letters, possibly reading FSAO. The reverse of this disc…

Cast lead cloth seal dating to the Medieval to Post-Medieval period. The object comprises a near-complete reverse disc with a fragmentary decorated, facing disc. There is a tag protruding from the reverse disc; this would have connected the two discs together. The obverse disc has raised decoration that is indistinguishable.

A four-disc lead cloth seal (the discs are joined by a strip, which has been folded, and the rivet has been pushed through the fourth disc and hammered to hold the seal in place). The second disc is stamped with the two conjoined shields of the Commonwealth, one with St George's cross, the other with the harp of Ireland, and the third disc has a shield having two shearmen's hooks over a teasel plant, with a chevron erminois - the arms of the Clothworkers' Company, who seem to have taken on a role in cloth sealing nationally in the 1650s. The seal dates to the Commonwealth period, 1650…

An incomplete, cast lead cloth seal dating to the late medieval to post-medieval period. The seal consists of two circular lead discs which would have been attached to each another, via the now broken sprue. One side has moulded lettering which has been partially worn off but M E [-] O can still be seen. Both sides have raised decoration; one is unclear while the other depicts a crowned fleur-de-lis. The internal faces are undecorated. The lead surface is a light greyish-white colour.

The upper disc is stamped with a crowned royal shield within a beaded border and surrounding legend which can no longer be determined. The reverse is undecorated. The metal is a mid whitish-brown colour and is worn. The seal is 30.3mm long (including stem), 25.5mm in diameter, 3.1mm thick and weighs 8.1g. A complete lead cloth seal of post-medieval date. The seal is of the two disc type sealed by a central rivet and linked by an integral stem. The upper disc is stamped with a cross hatched design, possibly representing a gate or portcullis, though the degree of wear makes this difficult to determine with any degree of certainty. The reverse is undecorated. The metal is a mid brownish-white colour and is worn. The seal is 25.8mm long (including stem), 17.8mm in diameter, 3.5mm thick and weighs 4.9g. A complete lead cloth seal of post-medieval date. The seal is of the two disc type joined by an integral rectangular strip. The upper disc is stamped with the letters "FN&J" in an elaborate Edwardian style script. The reverse has incised lines and "Z" which appear to have been added at a later date. The space between the two discs retains the material it was fastened to, possibly leather. The metal is a light brownish-white colour and is worn. The seal is 41.3mm long with strip, 31.5mm in diameter, 4.8mm thick and weighs 19.6g. Cloth seals were used in Europe to mark cloth for comm…

Lead disc, probably one of the inner discs of a four-part cloth seal. The disc is flat and circular, with two sprues, one either side. One surface is decorated with a crowned bust facing forwards, similar to the busts featured on medieval coins. It is therefore possible that this seal is late medieval in date.

A cast lead seal, probably a cloth seal, formed from a flat and circular plate of lead. There are two triangular notches cut into the reverse, which maybe the remains of the hole for a ribbon. The front surface is decorated with two crossed keys. Each has a circular bow, with a small extension and a straight shank, with a simple square bit. In between the bits of the keys there is a large cross. The edge of the disc is decorated with a raised border which is crossed with short raised lines. The metal is a mid cream-white colour. This seal probably dates to the early post-medieval per…

A lead cloth seal of post-medieval date. The object is a two disc cloth seal with the two discs being pressed together. Both discs are worn and broken around the edges giving one the impression of being heart shaped. It is however probable that the seal would originally have been circular in plan. Due to the degree of wear no discernable markings remain. The metal is a mid whitish-brown colour and is worn. The seal is 30.2mm long, 26.1mm wide, 5.3mm thick and weighs 13.3g.

Lead cloth seal. The object comprises one plain lead disc with a fragmentary disc atop it; these are attached at the centre, though part of the top disc is loose. The top disc has a central motif what appears to be a sword with a snake entwined around it. There is a low-relief pellet border around the diameter.
