An incomplete lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date. Part of one disc survives intact, along with a small section of the lead rivet. At the top the disc has apparently been cut, whch may suggest that it was once part of a larger 4-part seal, or at least had a second disc, all of which are now missing due to old breaks. The front face of the disc is decorated with a square shield containing a central vertical band. To the left of the shield are traces of now illegible lettering. The back face of the disc is flattened and at its centre has a small globular knop that forms part of the now…

An incomplete lead cloth seal of probable Post-Medieval date. One circular disc survives intact along with a flattened lead rivet, however the probable second disc is now missing due to old breaks. The disc is flat, circular in shape and measures 17.60mm in diameter, 2.57mm in thickness, and 4.05g in weight. The front face of the disc is heavily worn making any decorative motif or device that may have once existed entirely illegible. The back face has a thin horizontal casting seam. At the centre is the remains of a lead rivet that is flattened, circular in shape and with a small proje…

A complete two disc lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date. It consists of two lead discs of identical size held together by a central lead rivet and joined at the top by a small rectangular connecting strip. The upper disc has moulded decoration that consists of the letter S over the top of what looks to be a large letter M or perhaps a T and an H, all within a wreath. The lower disc is also decorated with a symbol that resembles a number 7 within a wreath. The seal measures 16.72mm in diameter and weighs 5.30g. This is probably a clothier or weaver's seal and similar examples are note…

A lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date. This is a one-part, single disc seal that is sub-circular in shape and decorated on both faces. A small oval shaped indentation at one end and projection at the opposing end suggest it may have either had a small suspension loop or a hole through the middle into which a string or wire was inserted to secure the seal to the cloth. The upper face is decorated with a square shield bearing a lion rampant and surmounted by a crown, all within an inner circle of pellets. The reverse face carries the inscription R&A 327, presumably a maker's or owner'…

A lead cloth seal fragment. It is one disc only, and is stamped with a Tudor rose, with initials C and R on either side, and probably a crown over, all within a circle. This suggests Charles I ( AD 1625-1649). The disc is plain on the underside, and measures 16.96mm in diameter and weighs 1.79g. Examples with 'crown over rose' from the late fifteenth to sixteenth centuries are recorded by Egan (1995, pp26, 163, fig.12, nos 14-16) who notes that the device is also known for seals from other countries.

A Post-Medieval lead cloth seal. It is a two-part seal, with the loop joining the two discs bent round at an angle. Disc one has been bent back upon itself, and its projecting rivet is in situ pressed through the hole in disc 2. A possible fragment from an incomplete cast lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date. One flat lead disc survives with uneven edges and the possible remains of a rectangular connecting strip at one end. The disc is uniface carrying moulded motifs on one face only. These depict a central fleur-de-lis, probably surmounted by a crown and within an inner circle. At the top the fleur separates a date, which appears to read 16-1[?]. It measures 14.08mm in maximum diameter, 1.33mm in thickness, and weighs 1.10g.
