Six incomplete post-medieval lead cloth seals in variable condition. The style of lettering suggests 16th and 17th century dates. Monograms and initials on suggest that most are clothier, weaver or searcher's seals. Egan writes 'stamped lead seals were widely used in the European textile industry during the late-medieval/early-modern period. They were attached to individual cloths as part of a system of industrial regulation and quality control. An incomplete lead medieval or post-medieval cloth seal. Only one disc now survives. A sub-cylindrical sprue projects from the centre of the reverse, which would have passed through a hole on another disc originally, securing them together. The outer face is decorated with unclear lettering surrounding a porcullis design in the centre.   Similar designs are found on a number of two-part late medieval and early post-medieval seals illustrated by Egan (1995, 175-6, fig.24&25) and suggest that it is probably an alnage or subsidy seal. Incomplete lead cloth seal, consisting of one disc with a rivet which is squashed to the surface. The disc has been broken from the connecting strip, so it is difficult to identify the form of seal, whether two-disc or four-disc for example. The stamp design is also difficult to identify, however there are clearly raised lines, two curved and one straight.
