A four-disc lead cloth seal (the discs are joined by a strip, which is damaged, and the rivet has been pushed through the fourth disc and hammered to hold the seal in place). Two of the other discs have been stamped with extra detail. One disc depicts four lozenges, each with extra detail but the details are not clear. The other disc appears to depict a deers head.

An incomplete, cast lead cloth seal dating to the late medieval to post-medieval period. The seal consists of two circular lead discs which would have been attached to each another, via the now broken sprue. One side has moulded lettering which has been partially worn off but M E [-] O can still be seen. Both sides have raised decoration; one is unclear while the other depicts a crowned fleur-de-lis. The internal faces are undecorated. The lead surface is a light greyish-white colour.

A complete cast lead cloth seal of post-medieval date. The seal is of the two disc type linked by an integral stem. Both discs are very worn and bear faint traces of decoration. One disc displays the Tudor coat of arms. The seal is 35.6mm long (including stem), 12.1mm in diameter and 1.8mm thick. Cloth seals were used in Europe to mark cloth for commercial sale between the 13th and the 19th centuries and were part of a system of regulation and quality control. The rivet type of cloth seal were specifically devised for marking commercial textiles (Egan 1994, p.4) and were common fr…

An incomplete lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date. The seal is of the two disc type with both discs only partially in tact. The front face of one disc has moulded decoration consisting of what appears to be a fleur-de-lis. The other disc appears undecorated though this could be due to the extreme wear. The metal is a light brownish-white colour and is worn and broken. The seal is 25.3mm in diameter, 4.3mm thick and weighs 4.4g. This cloth seal is of probable 16th to 17th century AD date.

A fragment of a lead cloth seal, dating from the 16th - 17th Century. Only about 50% of the seal survives. The traders' mark is still partially visible on the front surface. It takes the form of a letter G, with a scroll below it and up the middle of the seal. Presumably a second letter would have been visible on the right, but this has broken off. The reverse seal features another letter which is not that clear, possibly an I or L. Similar seals can be seen in Egan, p181.
