A Medieval lead cloth seal from Augsberg dating to c.AD 1500 - 1650.  It comprises two circular discs joined by a narrow strip of lead, folded to bring the discs together. Both discs are impressed with a raised design. On the front disc is an incomplete upper case letter A, for Augsberg, surrounded by four annulets within a cusped border. The impressed face design consists of an intertwined rose and Thistle with a crown above and the letter 'I' to the left of the crown, within a perimeter circle of short radiate lines. A post medieval two-part lead cloth seal, probably 18th century. One face depicts the crest of the city of Leeds, with a ram suspended from its midriff within a shield. This is surrounded by a ring of pellets containing an inscription surrounded by an outer ring of pellets. The inscription reads N[]L[ ] & CO. LEEDS. On the other face is inscribed: three parallel horizontal lines. Between the two upper lines is the number '9', and between the middle and lower lines is '29/'. Max diameter: 35mm. Thickness: 3.5mm. Weight: 16g.

An incomplete post-medieval (1500-1700) lead cloth alnage seal, probably dating to the reign of Elizabeth I. On one side is a crown over chained portcullis, the other side is blank. The portcullis was a badge of the tudors and was stipulated by Elizabeth I to be stamped on cloth seals (S Elton: Cloth seals, an illustrated reference guide to the identification of lead seals attached to cloth. page 218). The cloth seal measures 14.7 x 14.5 x 3.9 mm and weighs 3.68 g.

One section of a post-medieval lead alloy Norwich Weavers' Company Seal, Worsted Reformed, dating to the 17th century. Disc one reads [WOR /S]TED / [R]EFOR / MED; disc two is indiscernible. The object measures 18.48 x 20.65mm and weighs 3.29 grams. The seal was bent when found and straightened to read the full inscription.

A post-medieval probable four-part lead cloth seal, consisting of disc two and three only, and probably dating to c. 1525-1724. Both discs extend from either end of a bent connecting strip, a further flat projection extends from the second: probable portcullis of three uprights with angled ends (or possible black-letter initial) within raised beaded border // the number 6 or 9 within raised beaded border. The cloth seal measures 23.4mm in length, 17.1mm in width/ diameter, 3.3mm in thickness and weighs 4.70g.

An incomplete Post-Medieval lead cloth seal, probably disc 3 or 4 of a 4-part cloth seal, dating to c. AD 1590-1724. The disc depicts a shield with indented edges containing a double-stranded equal armed cross with the sword of St. Paul in the top left field, with CIVITA[S LONDO]N around the edge. Dimensions: diameter 15.7mm; weight 1.13g. 4-part cloth seals had come into use by the end of the 16th century, with the alnage taxation system abolished in 1724 (Egan 1994, 2001). Similar seals from london can be seen illustrated by Egan (1994: figs. 19-21).

A complete post medieval lead cloth seal dating to the period ADc.1500- 1700. The seal is comprised of two discs, which are both linked together by a rectangular tag. The tag has appeared to have been a single piece lead with symmetrical sides and then folded over, sealing the two discs together. Originally, the symbol would have been stamped on the obverse surface of a disc, however this ceases to exist. A piece of lead with no original edges, a clear transverse bend across the centre although the object has since been straightened. A post-medieval (1500-1700) lead alloy two-disc cloth seal, apparently with the connecting strip missing. Disc one is apparently without decoration or legend. Disc two has the remains of possibly the raised letter V or A at the centre of the squashed rivet. The cloth seal measures 22.6x21.8mm, is 3.8mm thick and weighs 7.40g. Cloth seals were used to authenticate textiles in the medieval and post-medieval periods throughout Europe (Egan 1992;1).

A lead post medieval cloth seal dating to AD c1500-1700. The seal comprises two parts joined in the centre. The seal is incomplete and is in two parts. The main section comprises a sub-circular front panel with stamped lettering comprising (possibly) of a large T with H and below it, P all entwined together. Beneath are the letters AB. The other side is plain, but with some scratchmarks which might be lettering. The seal is 21.27mm in diameter, 3.13mm thick and weighs 6.5 grams.

A probable Post Medieval (16th to 17th century) lead or lead alloy cloth seal; composed now of a single oval discs with a flattened stud on the reverse. The outer face of the disc has a lion passant guardant, but only the lower portion of the lion is visible. The surface of the seal is a shiny light cream colour. It measures 16.37mm long, 10.45mm wide and 3.09mm thick. It weighs 2.7g. Cloth seals were in use between the 14th and 18th centuries (Egan, 1989) as a form of quality control.
