A two disc, lead cloth seal dating from the Medieval to Post-Medieval period, about AD 1350 - 1724.  The two discs are fastened by a split pin type arrangement and a connecting tab. Most of the disc with the hole in it is missing. The outer face of disc 1 is illegible. Disc 2 is missing except for the centre where the rivet from disc one has been pushed through and stamped to seal it. On the rivet there appears to be a crown in relief over ligatured letters, possible AF or AR. This may suggest it dates from the reign of Queen Anne (1702 - 1714). The remains of the connec…

A incomplete subcircular lead alloy seal of medieval to post medival date, AD 1350 - 1550. It is a two disc seal with an integral rivet, but only one disc and the rivet survives. The surviving face has a lowercase lombardic letter "a" in reliefe, with a cross (+) on each side. The rivet has part of a pinecone motif surviving on it. These are symbols of the German city of Augsburg, where this seal originated. The lowercase letter A was superseded by a capital letter in the mid 16th century. See Elton (2017) page 296. The diameter is 18.6mm, the thickness is 3.1mm and the weight is 3.1g.

An incomplete disc from a two or four-part Post Medieval lead cloth seal dating from AD 1600 - 1700. It shows a fleur de lis and is probably from an alnage seal. A 2 lies in the upper left quarter, referring to the tax (alnage) paid on the cloth. Elton states that the fleur de lis is ubiquitous on cloth seals, but came into use with the Stuarts (Cloth Seals. An illustrated Reference Guide to the Identification of Lead Seals attached to Cloth: From the British Perspective. Stuart F Elton. Archaeopress 2017, page 217). It has a pale brown patina. Small lead alloy bag or sack seal dating from the later medieval or post-medieval period, that is the 15th-17th century. The seal appears to have been a two part seal, with a circular plate/circle on one side and a conical part on the other, connected by a band of lead. The impression is difficult to read but it is lettering which appears to be gothic, possibly 15th/16th century.

An incomplete button or, more likely, lead-alloy cloth seal, dating to the period AD 1650 to 1705. Only one disc remains: it is stamped with lettering on the obverse and plain on the reverse. Rather than a button it is more likely that this is one half of a cloth seal. The complete seal would have comprised two flat circular discs, one of which is now missing, joined with a small rectangular connecting strip. The surviving disc carries the relief-stamped legend 'WOR/STED/REFOR/MED', within a stamped circular border. On the second, now missing disc would have probably be number prob…

An incomplete lead alloy two-part cloth seal dating 16th - early 17th century from Augsburg, Germany. When complete the cloth seal would have comprised of two discs interconnected by a bar. The remaining disc depicts a letter A with a V-shaped bar and an upper crossbar, representing the town of Augsburg, surrounded by four annulets spaced at 90 degree intervals around the rim of the seal and a single pellet within the open space of the 'A'. Lead alloy cloth seal of the Commonwealth dating from AD1657. It is a four-part or four-disc cloth seal with the following imagery: Blank // plain cross on ornate saltire // cockerel on bow-like base, 5 7 to sides // blank. Rod Blunt (via Stuart Elton), says: "The impression depicting a cock is unlikely to be from an official stamp of the Commonwealth, particularly as it had banned cock-fighting. The presence of a bow below the cock suggests that the device might be a rebus for the name 'Bowcock'. [The reverse can be described as showing...] a plain cross with a foliate ornament …

A possible cast lead or lead alloy cloth seal dating from the Tudor period, abouit AD 1450 - 1600. The seal is incomplete and only a single uniface disc remains. This disc is decorated with a Tudor rose. The edge of the disc is abraded in one place, perhaps where an adjoining disc was connected. The surface of the disc has a cream coloured patina. The object measures 13.1mm diameter, 1.8mm thick and 1.53g. The object closely resembles a cloth seal, but it does not have the integral stud on the reverse so it is not clear how it would be secured to the cloth. It could be one disc…

Part of a post medievallead alloy cloth seal. It consists of a lead alloy disc with a central circular perforation. Attached to this is a rectangular sectioned strip of lead alloy.
