Post medieval lead two-disc cloth seal dating to the period c. AD 1525 - 1724. Two circular lead discs connected by a rectangular strip. One disc exhibits a central rivet which has been pushed through the second disc and stamped flat. One disc exhibits traes of a stemped portcullis design. The other disc has been folded back on itself and is now indiscernible. Egan (1985: 9) notes that the portcullis was "the main design for alnage seals in the late Tudor period... and continued in use into the early seventeenth century", however the design does appear to have occured on later seals,…

Post Medieval (later 17th century) incomplete cast lead four part cloth seal. Two discs of a four-part seal remain, discs two and three, but the connecting ribbon is missing. Disc two has 'OF ENGLAND with a bust facing right. Disc three has a fleur-de-lis with 1 to left and ½ to the right. The seal is in fair condition and the surface has a buff patina. The largest disc measures 19.39mm long, 13.42mm wide, 1.57mm thick and weighs 1.23g. Cloth seals were in use between the 14th and 18th centuries (Egan, 1994) as a form of quality control. A lead cloth or bale seal dating from the Post-medieval period. The seal is 'butterfly' or 'bow-tie' shaped in plan, 32 mm in length, 24.5 mm in width, 3 mm in thickness and weighing 25.6 g, with a folded, tapered connecting strip attached at the centre, 40 mm long, 5 mm wide at the base widening to 10 mm at its terminal. There is a 1 mm perforation 5 mm in from the terminal of the connecting strip. Disc-1 is plain, whilst disc-2 is stamped with a design of a lion's bust left above a simplified torse of seven pellets, in low relief, above 1406, which is incuse. On one face is perhaps the Tudor royal coat of arms, ie a moulded shield bearing the Fleur de Lys of France and the three lions of England quarterly. An incomplete lead cloth seal dating to the Post Medieval period (AD1600-1700). The seal is a single circular disc with knop on the reverse, and a casting mark. The obverse is decorated with what is possibly the figure of a king holding a sceptre with an inscription to the right of the figure. Tthe only letters visible are a letter E or L and I. An incomplete early post medieval lead two part cloth seal dating to c AD 1500 - 1700. There are a number of initials moulded into both parts of the seal but there is damage across half of the original diameter and on the face of one the parts so little can be discerned. On one face can be seen B W and on the other P, possibly L B. The tab which joins the two parts is present but broken. The item is 25.30mm in length and 19.93mm in width and weighs 5.90g.

A Post-Medieval lead cloth seal, probably dating to c. AD 1550-1650. Disc-1 of a two part seal. A circular disc of lead with an integral rivet projecting from the reverse, stamped with a depiction of a swan standing left, with the crude inscription HI(N/A). An integral rivet projects from the reverse with a partial, unlcear stamp. Dimensions: diameter 18.2mm; thickness 2.9mm; weight 2.07g. Egan (1994: 105, no. 307) publishes a similar seal which he identifies as being from Valenciennes, dated to the ?17th century.
