An incomplete Post-Medieval lead alnage cloth seal. The object is a single incomplete disc of an originally two or four-disc seal. It is stamped with a design representing a thistle, composed of raised pellets and surmounted by a crown. The disc is sub-circular in shape retaining much of it's original edge to the left of the design. To the right however, the edge of the disc is missing (about 10-15%) and the breaks are worn and irregular. Above the design is possibly the remnant of a broken connecting strip, by which it was joined to another disc. Alternatively this could be part of th…

A Medieval or Post-Medieval two- or four-disc lead cloth seal with a privy or merchants mark. The object consists of two disc fragments joined back to back. The fragment at the front is the larger one and is irregular in shape. It retains part of a stamped design but none of it's original edge, having breaks and wear on all sides. The design has a long vertical with a horizontal cross bar at the top, the rest of the top is lost to the breaks. At the base the vertical splits into two conjoined Xs . Half way down the vertical appears to be two short horizontals meeting shorter verticals,…

An incomplete Post Medieval lead alnage cloth seal. Originally forming part of a four-lobed seal, the surviving fragment consists of just two discs joined together: approximately 70 per cent of disc 3 and 90 per cent of disc 4. The breaks are old and probably caused by the plough. Disc 4 appears to have a tab extending a few millimetres from the edge opposite disc 3. At the other extremity, on disc 3, a remnant of the connecting strip that joined it to disc 2 survives and is slightly crumpled. Disc 3 is stamped with a design which, by comparison with similar seals, might be a thistle …
