Very worn Dutch post-1815 seal for Customs and Excise, copper alloy and ?lead, and rather squashed at the sides. They are quite common in this country and went on all kinds of goods. The main side has the arms of Orange in a shield - a lion rampant brandishing a sword, on a field with rectangles. The other side - illegible here - often has R & A = Dutch initials of C & E. It measures 20x17x4mm and weighs 9.61g.

An incomplete Medieval to Post Medieval lead-alloy cloth seal dating to circa AD 1500-1700. The surviving piece consists of a single disc (disc 1) of a two our four-part cloth seal. An integral lead alloy rivet projects from the reverse. The front face of the disc is stamped with an uncertain design. The disc is incomplete with a broken edge, precluding identifying the design. Post Medieval lead cloth seal consisting of two discs clamped together around a short bar which projects from the edge. Two lengths of the edge of one disc are turned over towards the other. The two resultant gaps are opposite each other and the bar is fixed in the centre of one. Both discs carry very short texts in Arabic. Image seen by Geoff Egan who advises that it was probably attached to a ‘Turkish/Persian’ carpet. Diameter 15mm. Perhaps 18th century.
